March 17, 2026 - (controversial) Even before "Ice-Out" was called two loons were spotted from the West Shore. Jane Dodds snapped a photo, proof of the very first sighting in 2026 of our favorite water bird.

The sighting was later questioned by a laker, believing the birds to be geese or mergansers. Given the snow that followed a few days later, I hope these two weren't loons, afterall.
