Sylvia Lake Community was sad to learn of the passing of Mary Jo Whalen, 96, a lifelong resident of Sylvia Lake's West Shore. For many of us, she represented a link to Sylvia Lake history. She spent every summer here, after her parents purchased the camp in 1936. She taught swimming lessons and was frequently seen walking the lake roads, greeting people along the way.​

It is with deep sadness the family of Mary Whalen bids their Aunt farewell as she embarks on her final journey reuniting her with her parents and beloved brother, Robert. Calling hours will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home in Canton, on September 9, from 3:30 to 6:30 PM. The funeral service will private, family only, on September 10 at the funeral home.
