Runaway Raft Spotted!

This afternoon (6/17) there was a square floating raft adrift on the lake. Complete with open cooler and fish pole. By now it's probably down by Conklin/Sleeman camps.

UPDATE- SENT BY ROB MEYER 6/29/10

Found my swim raft, BUT still something missing...

I'd like to thank the Riley camp for securing my seemingly always escaping swim raft. The post from 6/17 mentioned the raft had been spotted floating "complete with cooler and fish pole." The "fish pole" however was nowhere to be found by the time the Riley's secured it. Apparently someone else had it secured before the Riley's...

The fish pole, was actually my first fly rod. (LL Bean Fly Rod reddish brown in color, brass reel, and orange line). Judging from the fact the cooler and a couple other things were still on the raft, I don't THINK the rod could have come off on its own and someone may have just removed it so nothing happened to it. Maybe the heavy rain dislodged it?

The rod has a great deal sentimental value to me and I would make its safe return worthwhile, no questions asked. Feel free to contact me at 486-4488, meyerr24@gmail.com or stop by...

Looking to purchase on Sylvia Lake

My name is Matrin Spinelli. I currently live in Auburn, NY, then moving to Hermon, NY. My wife's family has been there for years (Skeldon/Hall). My wife can remember going to Sylvia Lake as a child and loved it, so I thought it would be nice to purchase some land there. If you have any information, contact me by email: martypw56@directv.net

Missing Swim Dock!!

Missing Swim Dock!!! It actually floated away in a storm late December, I had no way to retrieve it then. I figured it would turn up this spring and it hasn't? It's not the one in the marsh down in the corner to the right of the pump house. It's probably 6x6', faded pressure treated, large reddish brown angle irons on each corner. Very heavy duty, I've looked about everywhere...
please call 486 4488 or email meyerr24@gmail.com
Thanks, Rob

Thank You, Ferg!

Ferg rescued us one evening when our boat quit...it was very quiet on the lake and along comes Fergi. Whew! He towed us home and we are very grateful. All is well and we have been boating since. But we do appreciate his help.

Missing family pet!

Kelley and Joe Lacks are missing their fat loveable cat. He is yellow/orange in color. He was wearing a flea/tic collar. His name is McLovin. He was last seen on Thursday morning 3/18 at 3 am on West Shore Road. If you see him please call us at 287-7911. He will come to you if you call to him.

UPDATE: 3/24 - Our cat was found. Unfortunately the out come was not good. Jim Moses found him in the water in front of his camp. This is a good lesson to learn. Not only dogs can fall thru the ice. Thank you Jim for taking care of him and calling us. We will miss him.

It was sad to hear Hannah Saidel passed away this week. Although I didn't know her well, I learned a long time ago how much she loved her family and the lake. My thoughts are with her family and close friends. We are thinking of you-

Hello. I'm an old Gouverneur gal coming back in July to visit family. My brother Dick Jones has a camp on Sylvia but he doesn't have room for us all........ so I'm looking for a camp to rent either the week of 7/17 - 7/24 or 7/11 - 7/18. Does anyone have a camp available to rent? Please e-mail me or call (805) 646-6188. I can give an early deposit to hold of course.

Liz-Ann Jones Collins

webmaster note: I wrote back to Liz-Ann and told her about the three rental properties that are on the website.

Anyone have anything else that needs some advertising here? Rentals?

On wed. 2-24-10 at 10am. I saw a large bird fly into Wintergreen Bay. As it got closer to my camp I realized it was an eagle, the first one I have ever seen on Sylvia. The eagle was very large and beautiful. I hope it stays for while, it was a pleasure to watch. Harland Brown
