MISS DINOMYTES VISITS SYLVIA LAKE
On July 4th, Roger LaPierre put a vintage race boat on the lake for some testing. It was a Lauterbach wooden boat, built in 1985 and now runs on the vintage circuit. It was recently run in Valleyfield, Quebec on July 18-19.
The boat was one of the best in its day, winning the 1988 American, Canadian, and World hydro titles in Gran Prix class and again in 1991. He and his crew launched it by crane from the pump house with the assistance of several pontoon boats.
Even though the calm of the rainy morning was broken by the roar of the engines, it was an incredible site to witness and Roger needed only about 20 minutes to test some new components.
Few people know of the celebrity in his crew chief, Howie Benns who drove the boat to the above championships and also is a former driver for "Miss Budweiser", probably the most well known unlimited hydroplane in the world.
The pictures tell the story. Thank you to Sandy Kraker for sending them.
